Quotes (finished??)

“The relationship between the song lyrics/subject matter, musical style, genre, vocal delivery and star persona/physical presence all interact with three minutes’ worth of images” (Davies 2006: 11).
I agree with this statement all these aspects interact within three minute recording, some artists follow these typical conventions that the audience will often look for, within to create a sense of familiarity an example of this is Bastiles song Pompeii that has strong references to a historical event, follwing the lyrics and artist for the three minutes. On the other hand some will go against the relationships found in a three minute clip often to give a different meaning.

Goodwin on Davies “video behaves like a mini-film using cinematic devices, ‘fictional’ characters and the dramatisation of a story”.

To an extent I agree with this statement , the majority of music videos will have a storyline with characters to create a narrative, that works along side with the artists song/lyrics. On the other hand some videos do not include a narrative, which are also known as non linear videos, these can either relate to the lyrics or have no relation. An example of this is dance videos that will often have the artist lip syncing to the audio and not following a storyline. When researching and analysing music videos I discovered, depending on the genre, a lot of artists follow a narrative. This can be to express their emotions with the song, or give a deeper meaning which the target audience can relate to.
